Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Isobel is a young powerful witch who turned her back on her magic in deference to her less powerful boyfriend. When she finds he’s been cheating, she returns to Charming Cove and the grandmother she barely knows.  After learning of her grandmother’s passing and the troublesome home she’s inherited, it’s all hands on deck to restore the house to fully claim her inheritance.  The trouble is, workmen refuse to work on a house that makes it clear it doesn’t want them there.

Enter Rafe, the solitary werewolf with his own troubles,  They’ve both been burned by love in the past, but it’s only by working together on their respective problems that they can overcome their issues.

I loved the grumpy-sunshine relationship between these two stubborn characters, and the sentient house Isobel has to restore in 30 days (or lose it to her loser uncle) adds charming appeal to the story.  We get to see Aria and Emma from the first two books of the series, but this is a standalone novel that can be enjoyed without reading the rest of the series (but I highly recommend The Modern Girl’s Guide to Magic and How to Fake Date a Vampire on their own merits).

Will Isobel get a handle on her magic and restore her grandmother’s home?  Will Rafe figure out who cursed him (and why)?  Who’s this strange woman who lives next door?  Can Isobel live peacefully with her new home and all its attitude?  Read to find out!

Pair with a Lavender Love cocktail made with Empress 1908 Gin, lavender syrup, fresh lemon juice, vanilla extract, and lemon sparkling water for a refreshing, floral cocktail. (Link to recipe at The Social Sipper – Carolyn never steers you wrong!)

Thanks to Linsey Hall for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book!
