Hallie is tired of being the “weird girl”. She’s never been kissed, let alone touched. One drunk night she decided to proposition her male best friend to take her virginity. But things go a bit haywire when she proposes this to the wrong brother.

Enter Lane, best friend’s older brother, all-star, Orleans University resident playboy. He gets this proposition and strikes his homerun. He’s been pining after Hallie for years; this is his chance to get to know her, and well, taste her. After sleepless nights for both of them, he accepts. His caveat? Everything has to be special. He’s not deep diving into the world of intimacy (as much as he wants too). Now the question is, can they be together without falling in love?

I really enjoyed this book. Maren hit it out of the park (pun intended) with this baseball romance. “Homerun Proposal” is the first in a series, and I can’t wait to read about the rest of the Orleans Hellcats. One of the major reasons I loved this book is because Lane, although he was a dirty talker and a playboy, he went at Hallie’s speed. Consent and going slow was a major component in this book. Hallie needed Lane to show her the ropes, but he did in a way that just made me melt.

“Your first kiss isn’t going to be this, Hallie. It’s going to be when you come to me, when you know without a shadow of a doubt that this is what you want. When you give yourself to me. When I can give you a first kiss you’ll never forget, the one that ruins you for everyone else after me. You know where to find me if you decide that’s what you want.”

Another reason to love this book is it touches on that coming of age dilemma and what you want from life. Lane goes through a major transformation after being with Hallie. He realizes things that he didn’t know he was harboring. Hallie solidified her role in not only being herself BUT also being a woman.

Some Quotes I feel that EMBODY this novel:

“We don’t fit. Not on paper. Not in any way people would expect. But one thing you’ve taught me is that being different isn’t wrong. Sometimes the pieces may never align, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be something beautiful. This may have started as me teaching you Hallie, but it’s really you that’s been teaching me all along. You’ve been teaching me how to love.”

“Love isn’t conditional. It doesn’t have terms or expectations. It doesn’t matter if two people fit together. All that matters is that together… you feel whole.”

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Maren, thank you so much for trusting me with this ARC and giving us Hallie & Lane’s story.
